In some countries, you can hear people calling canopy tents "portable gazebo" or "frame tent." Usually, this type of tent comes in size from 5 feet by 5 feet to 10 feet by 20 feet. Tents larger than this are called "marquees." Since we are here talking about canopy tents, let's see what are their advantages.

Structure and purpose of a canopy

Pop up canopy tent is a shelter that collapses down to a size that is portable. You can use it for many purposes. For example, you can use it for parties, any kind of festivals, sports events, business stuff, or if you just want to be alone with yourself, a tent is a perfect place for that.

I have read somewhere that some canopy companies are beginning to silkscreen and digitally print on the custom canopy tops to endorse the corporation using them. This is a really great thing to do.

One more thing that is very important is the structure of a tent. I believe that when you are preparing for camping, you are using a good quality tent that is waterproof in case of the rain. It also needs to be strong and stable.

Most pop-up canopies are designed without walls, and open-sided. A standard pop-up canopy tent typically comes in two pieces – the frame and the canopy top.

The frame is usually constructed of steel, but on higher budget canopies, the frame is made of aluminum. In case you choose steel frame, you will end up with a heavier tent. We all know that the aluminum is light and easier to work with, but recently people started to use stainless steel which is lighter than steel and stronger than aluminum.

Types of a pop-up canopy tent

There are a few types of tents, and right now, I am going to show you which ones.

The regular tent is a shelter that people are usually using for camping, like myself. Believe me when I say, there is nothing better than camping outside in nature. Fresh air, woods, and piece = heaven.

Anyway, these types of tents are usually small, for one or two persons so you can pack it in your backpack. But there are also bigger ones if you decide to go out camping with your whole family, and then you'll need a car.

2. Gazebo

I mentioned this luxurious tent in the beginning. The gazebo has pavilion structure, usually made out of wood and in the most cases, it's built in public areas (like parks) or in the gardens. It's famous for being used for music festivals in England and Northern America.

This pole tents are hard to find. They are enormously big and in time they became luxurious and modern. In the beginning, these tents were made like the regular tents, but now people are starting to use PVC and aluminum.

Great things about this tent are his size, walls and you can pick any color you like. Since canopy tents are usually made without walls, I was positively surprised to see this one has walls and I purchased it immediately.

The next thing was to open it, and I started to get nervous because it was pretty hard to open by myself. The tent is sturdy and huge, but at the end, I succeed. Since there are walls, there are also zippers, and I was seriously mad when one of them got broken. Luckily I have a superwife at home, and she fixed it in no time.

The reason why I bought this canopy is that I am planning a small party for our friends with my wife, and we came up with the idea to spread a tent since the time is perfect for a party outside.

Later that day rain started to fall and it didn't bother me until I came under the tent and noticed that the canopy isn't waterproof. I was so frustrated back then, so I decided to return it in the morning.

Things I liked:

  • 18+colors to pick
  • Walls
  • Super strong

Things I didn't like:

  • Not waterproof
  • Zipper broken
  • Extremely hard to open it by myself
  • Price
  • Size, because it hardly fit into the trunk of my car

2. E-Z UP Pyramid Instant Shelter Canopy

I am not a big fan of white color, but my wife insisted, so I bought one. And, in the beginning, I was happy I listened to her. It was so beautiful when I opened it and guess what? Even that the canopy is sturdy and heavy, it was pretty easy to open it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have walls, but I'll manage. The first thing I did when I opened it is to sprinkle the tent with water, just to check is it waterproof. I took my garden hose and started to water the roof and finally, the tent is waterproof.

I was delighted when they told me that I'd have a warranty for three years on this canopy. So far I have told you all the good things about the tent, but there are not many bad things except it is pretty hard to close the tent. Besides that, I am mostly satisfied with this pop-up canopy tent.

Things I liked:

  • 15+colors to choose
  • Warranty
  • Waterproof
  • Easy to open
  • Sturdy

Things I didn't like:

  • No walls
  • Hard to close the tent
  • It collapses in harder wind

One more tent in white color. I couldn't resist. A few people ask me why I bought the white tent and the answer was because it reflects the sun unlike the black tent where it gets so hot, that sometimes you can't even breathe normally.

This canopy comes only in white color, which is an ok thing if you ask me. The tent has one side wall, unlike the last canopy which was without any wall.

This tent has a button which saves your time on set up and take down, so this was pretty easy to do, plus the canopy is light.

Later I noticed one bad thing and that is a small hole in the top of the tent, but we fix it immediately, and I guess it isn't that bad, but if you pay full money for new stuff, then you should get new stuff.

Things I liked:

  • Warranty
  • Price
  • Light tent
  • Quick release button
  • Waterproof
  • One side wall

Things I didn't like:

  • Little flimsy
  • exclamation-triangle
The hole in the roof (it doesn't that it is going to happen to you,
  • but this is from my experience)

I really liked this elegant blue canopy when I saw it the first time. And when I heard about the price I bought it right away. The tent is really light, and it is not hard to setup and takedown.

This is also one more canopy without walls, but it is sturdy, and it comes with storage bag. You can actually get it back in its bag after it's been used. I've been told that the canopy isn't waterproof, but I had to test it for myself, and it really isn't.

It served my family and me well on the beach, so if you need one of these, I recommend it, just don't wait for a rainstorm to blow it away. It is a little flimsy on the harder wind. Can you imagine what would happen if rainstorm comes? Better not!

Things I liked:

  • Price
  • Gift wrap available
  • Weight
  • Storage bag
  • Physical appearance
  • Sturdy

Things I didn't like:

  • Not waterproof
  • exclamation-triangle
    Little flimsy
  • exclamation-triangle
    Not for versatile use

This tent was the easiest tent to setup and takedown. In only a few minutes everything was done with the help of my friend. My time was saved, so was the strength and nerves. You don't need any tools, and the tent parts are sturdy.

This tent is packed in roller bag that is easy to store and has a smooth portability even on the rough road. You can choose between blue, red, light and dark green, white and black color. No matter which one you choose, you won't regret.

Maybe it is a little flimsy, but only if you put it in the stronger wind. In that case, you can place sandbags on it, and that will do the job. Otherwise, no need to do that.

As for the walls, the tent has one wall, and the rest you can purchase separately from the canopy.

Things I liked:

  • Easy to setup and takedown
  • Roller bag
  • Up to 6 colors to choose from
  • Sturdy and strong
  • Wall
  • Waterproof

Things I didn't like:

  • Price
  • exclamation-triangle
    Warranty
  • exclamation-triangle
    A bit flimsy

Conclusion & My Recommendation

Honestly, I was uncertain of which tent to chose for the winner today, but the last one Eurmax Basic Pop Up Canopy Tent bought me with all these advantages, and I choose that one! I will strongly recommend to you to buy this one and believe me; you will not regret the money you spend.
